The Animal Planet Orthopedic Memory Foam Bed is a lounger style bed designed with larger breeds in mind. This bed merges the flatter pillow style bed with the couch-style bolster bed, creating a lower profile option that provides comfort and support. Many users had several issues with this bed from the size, the mattress material, and the bolsters.
Specs
The core of this bed is memory foam, chosen for its comfort and support qualities. The memory foam has a cluster construction, which many users disliked because they found the core to be more like a pillowcase filled with shredded foam over the typical solid piece memory foam mattress. While dogs do find this bed comfortable, it is definitely more like a large pillow than a solid dog bed.
Around the core are bolsters on three sides. These give the bed a lounger feel and a couch-like appearance. Many users reported that these bolsters are not as firm as they seem in the listing photo, and are very soft. Since they are poly fill under the cover they do go flat over time. This bed is less couch or lounger-like and more like a large pillow with slightly raised edges.
The cover is brown suede on the outside with a Sherpa center. It is removable and is said to be easy on and off. This cover would match any current home décor and gives the bed a luxurious look and feel.
Use and Care Instructions
The cover is removable and has an easy on and off design. There was nothing mentioned about cleaning, aside from it was easy to remove to clean up accidents. The core and bolsters are most likely spot clean only since they are not solid pieces and more like filled cases.
Sizing
This is where users had the most difficulty with this bed. The photo included in the listing is of a Golden Retriever lying on the large bed, but when many received the bed it was too small for their large pet. Some even reported that the measurements are incorrect on the listing. The bed is listed with the dimensions of: 40” x 27” x 8”, but a reviewer said the bed was three times smaller than those dimensions.
While a 45lb Boxer does love this bed, a Black Lab found it too small and hung off the sides. For the price, $63.12, many were disappointed and only a few kept their purchase, mainly because the dogs had grown attached to the bed.
