The Animal Planet Orthopedic Memory Foam Bed we originally reviewed is no longer available, so this page now covers a lounger-style bed built for the same large dogs: the EHEYCIGA Orthopedic Extra Large Dog Bed. It pairs a foam sleeping surface with raised sides, the couch-like shape the Animal Planet bed was going for.

Specs

The sleeping surface combines memory foam with egg-crate foam. The memory foam layer shapes itself to the dog, and the egg-crate layer spreads the weight evenly, a combination aimed at older dogs and dogs with joint pressure.

Bolsters run along three sides and give the dog somewhere to rest its head and neck. The open fourth side makes it easy to step on and off. The top is covered in soft fleece, and the bottom is non-slip.

Use and Care Instructions

A waterproof film sits between the fleece surface and the bottom fabric to keep the foam dry. The sides are not waterproof, so a dog that lifts its leg on the bolsters will still soak them.

To clean it, take out the foam and machine wash the cover separately in cold water on a delicate cycle. Do not bleach it. Tumble dry on low and reshape as needed. The foam core should not go in the washer or dryer. After unpacking, give the bed 24 to 48 hours to expand.

Sizing

The extra-large size measures 44” x 32” x 6.5”. That is a good fit for Labs, Shepherds and other large breeds, and medium and large sizes are listed for smaller dogs.

Measure your dog standing, from the bottom of the paw to the top of the shoulder, and add 4 to 6 inches. Because the bolsters take up some of the surface, size up if your dog likes to sleep stretched out flat.
